A 21‑year‑old mother from Ebbw Vale, Blaenau Gwent, described two strangers as “literal lifesavers” after they rescued her nine‑month‑old daughter from a vehicle engulfed in flames on Thursday evening.
Heroic Intervention
Witnesses say the incident began when a car in a residential street caught fire, trapping the infant, Dawnielle Davison, inside her crib. The baby was unconscious when the blaze broke out.
Wesley Beynon forced his way into the vehicle through the driver’s side door, despite the intense heat and growing smoke. He quickly located the child’s safety harness, unclipped it, and handed the infant to Marc Willding, who lifted her out as flames began to lick the interior.
Firefighter Mike Hughes arrived moments later, entering the smoke‑filled cabin to assist the rescuers and to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
Medical Assessment
Paramedics pronounced Dawnielle stable but unconscious at the scene. She was transferred to a nearby hospital, where doctors reported that she suffered no serious injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.
Community Response
The mother, Alex McClean, expressed profound gratitude, stating, “I will never forget the courage of Wesley and Marc. They literally saved my baby’s life.” Local residents praised the quick thinking of the by‑standers and the professionalism of the fire service.
Authorities’ Remarks
South Wales Police are investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, the fire service highlighted the importance of public vigilance and rapid response, noting that the decisive actions of ordinary citizens can be pivotal in life‑threatening situations.
