Venice, Italy – The iconic canals of Venice came alive on Sunday as the city officially launched its world-renowned Carnival for 2026. A spectacular floating parade, a beloved tradition, marked the grand opening, setting the stage for weeks of revelry and masked festivities.
Leading the procession was a colossal, intricately crafted paper-mâché rat, affectionately known as “Pantegana.” A long-standing symbol of the Venetian Carnival, the giant rodent, perched atop a traditional gondola, guided a vibrant flotilla of decorated boats and floats through the city’s historic waterways. The spectacle drew crowds of onlookers eager to witness the commencement of one of the world’s most celebrated cultural events.
